African Designs continues to grow

African fashion continues to expand its status across Africa with the strongest and talented designers lining up to be in full front at African fashion weeks, expanding the strength of African fashion to the global community. As this status of African fashion continues to grow globally, the recognition of African designers is still emerging.
Whilst in South Africa one of the judge panellists Michael Roberts, Editor-at-Large of Vanity Fair of last year’s fashion awards in Africa was impressed with the South African fashion show that it inspired him to do photoshoot for the Telegraph UK and L’ officiel magazine.

With much coverage of African fashion, it was finally announced at a media launch on Thursday the 16th of February, that Mercedes Benz South Africa is the new title sponsor for what was formally known as Johannesburg Fashion Week, Cape Town Fashion Week and Africa Fashion Week.

During the launch of the new title sponsor, Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe mentioned in her speech stating:

“I have no doubt that this collaboration will have an important bearing on not only South Africa’ s economy but also the continent and contributes to our international standing in the fashion world.”

Through its numerous Fashion Weeks and initiatives, African fashion shows open up the continent to commercial projects both locally and internationally, increasing the geographic reach of Africa’s fashion and the market access to the continent’s apparel.

As the African fashion continues to produce and present creative talent across Africa, it is ensuring that the world has market access to African products and designs.

With this strong and upcoming influence of the fashion industry on continent as well as the synergy behind it, many industries within Africa will be brought together in cooperation, ensuring more job opportunities for individuals, benefiting the African economy.
